So out of three games last night at Lake Fairfax I believe it is safe to say that the refs screwed up ALL of them. Some of the WORST calls and non-calls I have EVER seen in this league. And the Raw Dawgs had the game taken from them when they were about to make a ballsy move and go for the win with just a few ticks left.
sad. |

I didn`t see the first or last game, but the refs made the right call at the end of ours, not the actual issue tho, it`s the calls they missed or made early in the game, that just compounded at the end. Refs had nothing to do with why our D couldn`t stop Acid last night. I agree there is a issue with the officiating overall, Has anyone ever had the ref that couldn`t make the call even tho he was closet to play, but the ref 50yds away has to call it? That is sad. I`ve seen that type of logic change outcomes of games, usually resulting in the wrong call. What can you do right? It`s just flag football nobody gets paid! right???? |

Way to take it on the chin coach. no excuses. however, I think you all got robbed on that "down field blocking" and the last play...you can`t call TD and take it back 1-3 minutes later.
I commend you for not making excuses though.

| Nah | 09:23 AM |
I disagree, RD Coach. We don`t get paid, but we DO pay to play in this league, and I know part of those dues go to pay for the refs. I think at the very least we should be able to expect that these guys at least know the rules, and it`s clear to me that the majority of them do not. The refs have always been bad, but the last 3 seasons they have gotten worse and it looks to me like Tom either doesn`t care or can`t do anything about it. |

| Well | 09:42 AM |
The skinny black ref and his two old white dudes that he refs with are the best. Those dudes are on point (its been a pleasure having them the last 2 weeks). But the tall light skinned black dude with the chick glasses on, and his little bowling ball partner, are terrible sometimes. I think they must be high or something. Dont know if those are the same dudes u all are talking about or not. |

| Question | 10:32 AM |
There is a valid point in this thread. I have seen and heard too many times that a ref will offer up the excuse ( It is NOT my call to make, it is the other refs responsibility to call that) what is up with that? I thought the referee has the authority to make a call any where an infraction occurs. Now they say if the right ref doesn`t make the call - it does not matter.I think Tom needs to call a meeting to address this.Calls need to be made if they are seen by a referee, no matter what zone he is supposed to be watching. |
|
| answer | 11:42 AM |
score more points than the other team and the refs wont be an issue, seems like u need to join a better team |
|
| Get a clue | 12:24 PM |
This has nothing to do with points scored or winning or losing. It is called taking responsibility to make a call when an infraction is seen. The cop-out plea of "it is not my call" is the issue. What if other leagues developed that strategy? "I know it was a foul , but the other ref needs to make that call" or " It is not my call to make" or the now famous " the foul occured in the other refs zone" What the &*$# is that? |

All in all the refs are pretty good considering how tough it is to see everything. That said there is the "let em play football" mentality do they call everything even marginal infractions?
Last week we were flaged for cursing (which we were told we would be) but the next play the other team said the same word near another ref and were not flagged. Calling fouls both ways, being consistant, is critical. Yesterday we had two players rushing the QB they were about to pull his flag and one of the offensive linemen pushed our rusher, from behind, into the other rusher causing a collision NO FLAG for blocking in the back which caused two injuries. These are the things refs should be focusing on not if we say a magic word but they were told by the league to monitor language.
We have had bad calls for and against us and have had our fair share of no calls but all in all our reffing crew is fair and far superior than the ones we get during the state tournament. Some of the call they make aren`t rules in ANY league! You have to admit there are far more good calls or correct "no calls" than bad calls.
To RD Coach: I like that you don`t blame the refs although you complain about the calls during the game, which we all do, you don`t blame them for the outcome. |

Hey Raw Dawgs! You got what was coming to you and theres no need to make ref excuses so stick with coach and accept defeat. |

This league is the only league in State Of Virginia that uses three officials all other leagues uses 4 officials under the circumstances the officials do a great job and plus each official has there own responsibility in their own area to make calls. |

| Re: Signal 83 | 1:14 PM |
My sincere apologies that you had two players hurt on that play. I mean sincerely.
As long as the O-lineman and the D-lineman are engaged in "blocking activities" you can have a block in the back, with no penalty. |
|
| To: Re: Signal 83 | 2:37 PM |
"As long as the O-lineman and the D-lineman are engaged in "blocking activities" you can have a block in the back, with no penalty."
You are correct with this statement however the o-lineman was not continuously engaged. One guy was completely by himself and the other one went around the o-lineman, untouched, then slowed to pull the flag was was pushed from behind into his teammate.
I do not believe for a second the lineman intended to hurt anyone but a push from behind should always be called. By the way; if an o-lineman and d-lineman are engaged and the d-lineman turns and the o-lineman extends his arms in a pushing motion this is a penalty. (Rule 9, Page 42, Article 7, Paragraph 8) The blocker mus be stationary or moving backwards for him to be able to extend his arms.
The Wolv`s had to double team the guy who got pushed because he was running free, untouched, around the o-lineman. So to engage you must first be able to touch the person. |
|
| to signal and wolverines | 2:48 PM |
you all both had penalties called that shouldnt have been and got no calls where there were obvious penalties so it all equals out.
MAIN POINT: Tom/IFFL should grade their refs and those clowns that were out there last night get a huge F in my book. Especially that power hungry midget. |
|
| tmtmtl | 2:49 PM |
to that last message, the part about the OL extending his arms if the DL turns...so basically the DL could just spin every play and the OL would have to break off his block..? seems unfair 2 the OL. |

The blocking rules are fine. Given the right opportunity, you can really knock someones block off even within the rules. I`ve seen some straight crushes that are 100% legal. Blocks in the back are garbage but I feel the refs normally do a good job calling that if its real bad. Otherwise, if the Oline is pass blocking (moving backwards) and they engage, anything goes. That`s football. |
|
| To: tmtmtl | 3:22 PM |
Spinning while the o-lineman is engaged and continues to be engaged is a legal block. If the o-lineman is moving forward they are NOT allowed to extend their arms. Like the pros o-linemen can extend their arms while blocking as long as the o-lineman is moving backward or stationary. If the d-lineman spins the o-lineman can continue to block him but cannot move forward and extend his arms. This is not a hard concept to grasp.
Last evening the o-lineman was beaten, the d-lineman ran psat him without being touched, the o-lineman turned took a few steps and pushed the d-lineman in the back. |
|
| To: Whatever | 4:33 PM |
You are correct because of the key phrase in your statement, and you highlighted it, "moving backwards". Moving forward looking at a players back and pushing him into another player is bush league and there is no place in this or any league. It is a cheap shot.
I will say again the guy did not intend to hurt anyone but he chose to push him from behind. |

Stop blaming the refs for your ****ups on the field. You punks only want to pay for 3 refs not 4 make plays and stop crying the refs don`t cost any games and you fools don`t know the rules so you blame the refs for not knowing them, the refs could sell you a bunch of **** and you wouldn`t know read the f ing rule book and score some damn points. |

Some refs are better than others, I agree with that. But I must defend the refs, as long as you don`t "attack" them for what YOU think is a bad/missed call, they are willing to explain why they called a penalty or why they didn`t call a penalty. You show them respect, they show you respect. That`s just my .02 |
