subject: "What`s the deal with the refs at Wakefield?"
Wakefield ref hater

I have been in this league since 2002. Fall, Spring, and Bark Bowl. Just want to state that I have never complained to and about the refs in 5 years but I have to vent my fraustration today. On one occasion my qb got knocked down on what looked like a personal foul, he got up and said this is ridiculous and ref looked at him and called a unsportsman like conduct. I was okay with that since we shouldn`t be asking for calls but what shocked me was what traspired immediately after the flag. That ref threw the flag and said "you want to be a dumb ass i`ll give you a flag...you dumb ass" wow...i was so shocked i dind`t even know what to say.

Not bringing cones...running the game time down so they can go home early...those are somethings to complain about as well...but to vent out like that was totally unprofessional. I am not going to state our team name since we have couple more games at wakefield but someone from the league needs to review these refs...I don`t think we should be paying these guys.

I have to agree with you.

We played a game were there where they didn`t bring the `line disks.` Instead, they used a huge stick. It was not safe.

I`m not trying to cry about it, but come on. Cones and line disks are all they need to bring to a game.

Agreed

The stick they use is a hazard. I saw multiple players scrambling after the QB and slipp on it and fall hard

I concur

These refs need to review the rules again. They are not versed with the rules because when challenged they seemed stumped.

Not only stumped, but they really don`t seem to care.

I won`t state our team either, however this does need to be addressed. Unprofessional, on the cell phone, inconsistent calls, fast clock. No team should tolerate or pay for these kind of refs. It`s an embarrassment to our league. Teams outside the league like the Force have been exposed to this and its embarrassing. I watched a touchdown and an interception get called back on the Force this past week on two of the worst calls and unattentive behavior from referees I have ever seen. It`s embarrassing for us old timer Fairfax guys.

All reffing issues aside..............I totally second the stick issue!! We played there a few weeks ago and I couldn`t believe it when the refs brought that stick onto the field. That thing is just waiting on somebody`s knee or ankle. Can somebody from the league please help us out here?? How much can those red and yellow discs costs that other fields have?!?! At least use sandbags or something.

I might even bring out some 25 cent poker chips next time. At least I won`t have to worry about tripping over a giant stick....it`s actually closer to a log!

How hard is it to keep the cones and line disks in the trunk of a car?

I think the point of this is not to come on here and cry about the refs. The points: PLEASE make sure not to use a stick as line marker, PLEASE bring the cones, PLEASE give us the time we paid to play, and finally, PLEASE pay attention to the game.

Ridiculous

That these guys get paid to ref these games. They are worse than the volunteer rec league refs from college, most of whom were there to do community service for some bad **** they have done.

But, what`s new? The reffing in this league (save for a few good ones) has always and will always be a joke.

Sorry man, I have to disagree.

The refs have been pretty good, and get my respect, except for the refs at Wakefield.

Most of the refs are very attentive, try to call a good clean game (granted, there will be missed calls, but there are missed calls in the NFL), and allow the full time we paid for.

Don`t bash all the refs, it`s only a couple that need to step it up.

I don`t like the sticks either, but the sticks are used during the state tournaments.

Refs at Wakefield leave a lot to be desired. In a recent game, they had no idea where to mark the ball on a punt downfield because they assumed that a penalty would be accepted. They have run time down to go home early. They start the play clock well before the ball is back (in order to speed up the game). Not just bad calls, mostly an unprofessional attitude.

it`s easy to complain about ANY refs...a little unfair to do so. they do try i`ll give them that and they are nice guys. but they do need to refreshing on rules. and i actually called them out for using that stick. their clocks are pretty fast, it feels like an 06 game with that clock. i asked them about numerous rules in which they didn`t know about. and when you try and correct them about it they get get mad about it and think you`re being defiant. i asked them if i literally almost gave the other team the ball while running, basically handing the other team the ball what would happen. they said the ball would be dead right there and another team under any circumstance CANNOT take the ball(even if handed).

My understanding is that the refs at Wakefield are NOT the group that is doing the other fields. The officials at the other fields are ones that have been doing the Fairfax League for over 25 years. At Wakefield this is a new group with no training or experience in flag rules or ever been “close” to state or nationals to officiate. By the way the “stick” that used in the state is a ¼ inch BY 3 foot long pvc pipe. So good luck at Wakefield.

I have some issues with them as well. There used to be a solid crew there, now it seems as if anybody that wants to make a few extra bucks, GOT THE JOB. By the way how much do we pay as a team for refs?

If these refs were at states, then there is seriously something wrong with flag football. Not only do they NOT KNOW THE RULES, but they call penalties.

They are horrible.

Me - "So wearing pockets isn`t 15 yards?"
Ref - "Show me a rulebook that says that, show me a rulebook that says that."

That`s all you need to know about these refs.

to :) what state are you talking about?
Those officials at Wakefield have no clue about the rules of flag or for that matter about any clue on state and house modified rules.
