Seriously, is this field a muddy disaster or what? Will it ever dry out?

I played there a few times, and noticed alot of sprinkler heads on and off of the field.

Maybe thats why?

i played there on Wednesday of last week and it started off horrible and got worse as the night progressed. The sad thing is that it hadnt rained in at least 3 days.

I strongely agree with these post on the field conditions at Wakefield. I don`t say this because my team lost. However, we play flag football and we need a good playing surface. If this was "contact" football then the circumstances would have been different. Ex. teams would go to ground attack and less air. However when you have to teams with with great team speed that can air the ball out, playing in total mud is just as bad as playing in the rain. I`m all about two teams getting after it and leaving everything on the field. That wasn`t the case last night. If any team is due to play at Wakefield soon or playoffs, I`d warn it`s not worth it and would request the league to move the game to better location.

how is the greenbriar field lately?

I`d say that`s the best field we`ve played on, it`s held up decent being that the little plays. Grass is thin spots but firm ground.

Playoff games should be in Greenbriar!

I`m definitely going to co-sign on Wakefield being a hideous field to play on. I played on both sides of the both over two games on the muddy side of that field last night and there was literally no traction over there. References to chocolate pudding and ice skating definitely apply to this field.

Like my coach said to me this morning, we pay money to get into this league. I think our dollars go a little further than field conditions like that. I`d rather play at 11pm at night on a good field than 8pm on a field that might be a factor in the outcome of a game.

In softball the safety of the players had to come first. Do we get to send the medical bills and loss of work to Fairfax when someone blows out there knee because of the field. The league got close to $10,000 for this season; you would think that we could get a decent field to play on. Guess I`ll find out tonight at Wakefield.

I thought we were going to get the fieldturf field this fall -- the one we got to use this past spring. What ever happened to that? I think the league played one game on it in week 1.

the league got much more then 10k for this season. 850 a team multiplied by 46 teams is approx 40k.

I was going with 200 a team....DAMN! We are taking it in the tail pipe. For 40k we should be able to use any field we want to.

Does anyone know how many Farifax Co. fieds have lights and where are they? I`ve only played on Wakefield and Herndon and Greenbiar. What other are out there? Curious.

Braddock Park also might be a consideration along softball fields 5 & 6. i know they have soccer games in that area but can`t remember if I`ve also seen field goal posts there. Maybe someone can provide more insight on this.

"850 a team multiplied by 46 teams is approx 40k."

Take 500 off the top of each team`s fee for officiating, then 120 for fields/insurance, then 50 into the pool for trophies/shirts/medals...etc...yes and there`s more expenses in running a league.

"we should be able to use any field we want to."

Braddock Park and Pop Tree are NOT available to us yet. EC Lawrence NOT available. We have been doing this a long time. We know where the fields are, we ask for them. Competition for field space is tight in the County, there is a pecking order, and adult flag football is not the biggest player. Ask your coach - he knows.

Just FYI: I have played adult league softball and baseball through the spring summer and fall. Its real hard to get field permits with all the different leagues and temas there are out there. I assume it would be the same hassel for Flag Football.

I can understand the difficutly in getting fields but all that is being said here is that the games should be moved if the field is in the condition that it was in last night. This was my first time playing there and the visiting side of the field was bad. I would take the hard dirt and rocks on herndon over that one. My kudos to those who play on it every week. Tom, your point is well taken I think players who play on that field are just venting some frustrations. Keep pushing for more fields, though. And thanks for at least getting us three fields to play on with the county being difficult.

Sorry Tom- FCFFL, I myself had no problem with Wakefield last night. It was wet, but it makes for good football. Atleast there is a season for us to play.
