I am looking for some clarification. We had some bad refs yesterday. Can anyone tellme if the ref blew this call or was this a ruleI did not know. In the middle of a play last night two guys got in a fight one threw punches and the other did not. The play was still going on the other team had caught the ball downfiled and the player was running with the ball when we heard a whistle soeveryone stoppednot sure why till we looked back at the line of scrimage where the ref was trying to break up a fight. The refs kicked both players out and then decided to place the ball dowfield at a random first down cone near where the person caught the ball. I thought since their was offsetting penalties we would replay the down. The ref told me that was not the rule and then decided to tell me he has played for 17 years and ref for 19 years he knows what he is talking about. Does He or is he just a power hungry idiot ref? If he is an idiot and blew it why cant we get some refs that dont want to interject themselves into the games. I have been playing for two years now and these refs really suck.

Look, it`s an acknowledged fact that the ref`s aren`t... good. But they aren`t good both ways, I haven`t seen any instances of favoritism or anything, they just aren`t...good. There`s at least 4 or 5 blown calls in every game I`ve played or watched. That`s just going to be a constant that has to be dealt with. It`s pointless to complain about it, `cause even if they do remove a ref, he`ll get replaced by someone equally incompetent.

Blazers, you would be right in thinking the play should have been voided and replayed. In the event of an inadvertent whistle or off setting penalties, the down shall be blown dead and replayed per USFFA rule book.

I have umpire Adult Softball, and Flag Football and can understand how fast a bad call can be made in the heat of the moment.

The officials should have talked about the call for checks and balances.

Are you the same moron who tried to pick a school-yard fight in the parking lot after the game??

How about showing a little discipline and sportsmanship by keeping your cool and not fighting in the first place. For God`s sake, ITS FLAG FOOTBALL!!

The ref may have blown the call, but he shouldn`t have to baby-sit grown men!!

I was on the opposing team, and I have to agree with you. We were in our huddle expecting to replay the down, due to the off-setting penalties.

Yes, the refs blow a number of calls each week, because there are only three of them. From our game last night:

1. The aforementioned catch/fisticuffs play that should have been a replay of the down.

2. I didn`t have the best angle, so I can`t say for sure, but our lineman insist the QB had passed the line of scrimmage on your team`s 99 1/2 yard TD bomb--oh well.

3. The ensuing kick-off, we definitely did not touch the ball first, and therefore should have been your team`s ball.

4. Once again, too close to call, but our receiver says he did not touch his knee to the ground on our final drive.

I`m sure you have many arguments from your side, as well.

The point is YOU GET WHAT YO PAY FOR.

No I am not the one who tried to pick a fight with anyone after the game. I respect the other team and would never want to fight an opponenet.I enjoy playing the game and it can get rough some times, but never that bad that i feel i need to fight someone over it.

I agree with you about the game last night they were bad on both sides I just wish they would know the rules and apply them correctly instead of pretending they know everything. I am sure we will have many more bad callas and refs to go through this season. I just wish jackass refs like the one we had last night would not be there. There whole mission should be to make sure there is a level playing field and not take over the games as they try and do sometimes.

I am not ****in about the outcomes because of the refs I just hate when they tell us thats the way it is when they are obviously wrong.
Good luck to all of you this season and have fun

They used to drive me nuts too, but like everyone has said, the sooner people get used to it the better. They arent paid enough to be held to any higher standard. I will say this: as one of the oldest guys in the league, they are WAY better than they used to be. There used to be 4-5 absolute pricks that picked on teams they didnt like and made it LITERALLY impossible for you to win. Lesson learned: the more polite you are, the more calls you will get.

this is an offtopic rules question - i a player w/the ball loses a flag is it down instantly or does it become one hand touch?

The blazer would lose with the best Refs in the World. Get over yourself. You lost and that is all there is to it.

In response to question`s question if a player loses a flag or gain`s possession with one flag, the ball is down. There is no need to touch the runner/player.

every ref plays by different rules...some say it becomes "touch" after that. you never know. i would like late flag pulling to be called more often/never is (akin to a "late hit")

Hey Lazer you are an idiot I clearly said it had nothing to do with the refs for the outcome. I belive no matter how bad refs are you still win or lose the game from your actions. Keep talking smack I guess thats what you do best.

This is Flag Football. Stop fighting and start playing and stop blaming refs for everything. They have good games and bad games, like us. They aren`t NFL refs. There is no replay. If I have learned one thing in this league it is this... Whenever a bad team loses, you always hear complaints about the refs.

REF ANSWER
Here is your answer to Blazers question:
The officials administered the situation as an “Inadvertent whistle” which causes the play to become dead. So the un-sportsman like fouls become dead ball fouls which would be administered separately.

As for the “Inadvertent whistle” Here’s what you would do in this case.
Rule 4 Sec 2 art4(c) “When a player is in possession, the team may choose to accept the play at that point OR choose to replay the down”

SO MISTER EXPERT (BLAZERS) The official did administer the proper ruling by placing the ball the point where they believe the runner was at the time of the “Inadvertent whistle”
So the official would ask the team in possession,
Then team A would have an option to take ball at the point of the whistle or replay the down.

Question to "REF"

I stand corrected in stating in the event of and inadvertent whistle the play is replayed. But doesn`t the double personal fouls Supersede the actual play, there for resulting in replay of down?

Hey tough guy lazer we did not loose that game. Again I am not blamming the refs for any losses or ties which we did in that game. I just wanted to know what the rulling was for that call. That was it. I still hate refs. Does not matter if its in flag football, the NFL, The NBA, or worldcup refs they all suck. I am very glad for you lazer that all you do is win. Good for you.Must feel good to be such a winner or is that whinner.

The refs are sooooooooooooooo much better than they used to be!!!!! Blown calls are nothing compared to being picked on by a ref that doesnt like you/havent seen that in several seasons.
Thanks for the clarification...the realitys is that most refs have their own version, but rarely does it really matter much...

by the rule the inadvertent whistle makes the play dead. The un-sportsman like fouls become dead ball fouls which would be administered separately. I hope this answers your question.
