Spartans offense didn`t do anything. Mags taxed that a s s all over the field, but couldn`t go balls deep, just toyed with the head for a bit...then pulled out for the win!

Spartans awakened a sleeping Giant this past week! Haha. I thought we did a real good job defensively. Spartans have a lot of speed and we knew that would be a challenge for us. Credit our pass rush for getting in Slash`s face all night and not giving him many clear throwing lanes. Spartans offense looked out of sync. Offensively I thought our line and QB (Gibson) did a great job. Line helped open some lanes for him to run through and Gibsons scrambling ability helped open holes in the secondary. Tough to cover guys for that long. We have to improve on our red zone offense though. Those wasted opportunities almost blew it for us.

Halftime you were down 7-6. Then on the last drive you were down 7-6 and eventually go on to kick a field goal to win the game with 4 seconds left. Take me to what was discussed at halftime and during the game winning drive.

Honestly we didn`t feel like we had to make any adjustments. We felt like we were moving the ball at will through Gibsons legs and the short passing game. Spartans were sitting on that deep ball so we really didn`t want to force it. We just knew we had to take advantage of red zone opportunities. Same thing in defense. There weren`t many completing first half. They had that one big 3rd down drag that went for a long TD after a missed flag pull. So just had to prevent the big play and watch for lineman dump since we rushed 4 the whole first half. I was surprised they only dumped it once to a lineman 2nd half.

Now I was nervous about our kicker. He spanked his 3rd straight PAT (dating back to that Novacaine game a week ago) and then missed a FG to start the 2nd half - one he usually nails. But Garret Hartley came through when it mattered.

Defense seems to be the Mags staple this year. Teams are averaging 8 points a game against you this season. Defense was your team’s staple in your championship season last spring. Which Mag’s team is better? This spring or last spring?

@caller - yeah he was talking all night. Offensively I covered him on a couple plays but he didn`t get any looks. On defense only thing I remember him doing was breaking up a 5yd route to our big WR. They basically ran a zone all game so tough to tell what completions were his responsibility.

Damn that`s a helluva question ESPN. I think its way too early to crown this magnums team as our best defensively. Last spring probably had more talent but this spring has more depth. If we were missing a player or two last spring we had a little trouble filling in. This year a lot of guys are interchangeable. I don`t think last springs team would`ve blown a two TD lead in the 2nd half like we did last week. But we got some new guys learning to play together so ask me again in late May.

Rob, Magnums have been around for a while, and like most young teams you took your lumps early on. Was their one new player or big win that turned it around for you guys? If I recall, the first time you made some noise was a Bark Bowl Final 4.

Damn right we did. I mean we were looking forward to this game before the chatter because we`ve played against some of these guys who used to be on TC and Sharks so we knew it was a big game. But anytime somebody calls you out and and claims you`re scared it makes you want to beat them and shut them up even more. Hell if anything it helped us quickly forget about the choke job last week vs Novacaine.

@Will - I couldn`t specifically see the individual line play because I was in coverage. I`ll take your word for it that you might have been winning the one on one battles but we were rushing 4 on 3 blockers so from talking to my guys I know we were getting pressure simply by out numbering. Maybe all those deep routes helped too because they take longer to develop. Haha I`ll have to break down the game film and let you know.

Easy film study... Slash trying to shuffle in the pocket and throwing side arm passes to us.. We all hate loosing but when your QB throws like he`s punting the ball and cant read coverage when people are wide open you start to question why we even picked him up..

We have Rob from the Mags with us today fresh off of their win over the Spartans last night. Phone lines are open at 1-800-SAY-ESPN

Rob, my listener demographics tell me that I have quite a few B & C league teams that listens to the show as well. The Mags won the 2009 B State Championship and then the next season won the 2010 A Spring FCFFL Champsionship. What advice would you give to the up and coming B & C teams to help them emulate the Mags success?

@vet - I think the bark bowl where we lost to Sharks in the championship was the stepping stone. I mean by then we realized that we could compete in A league. I don`t think it was any one player because we`ve had a lot of different guys come and go over the years, but it took time figuring out what works in this league and what kind of players you need to be successful.

I mean I think one of the best things was that first season we played A league. Tom needed a team to move up to A and asked us to. Helped getting that exposure to better competition because it made us better. We wanted to wait until we actually won something on B+. We had a history of 2nd place finishes. Hell I think playing in A that season helped us win B league states.

This is the type of sh*t im talking bout...All Rob said is their D-Line did a good job bringing pressure and getting in Slash`s face, and Will gets his panties in a bunch and gets all defensive, about HIMSELF? WHY??? It`s no knock on you Will, you act like it`s impossible for another team to be able to generate a good rush on you and I assure its not. Doesn`t mean your not a good player, so why even act like that.

Truth is......NEITHER! That`s why I cut em both. Mike was too caught up becoming an aspiring rapper/lifetime movie actor/part time comedian/30 year old NFL prospect. He`s a poor man`s Jamie Foxx.

Cody.....I told him it was either him or his g@y soccer cleats.

Rob: "as a proud alumni of JMU, I am one of the very few of my JMU friends that live and die by JMU sports but I hope to get the others to see the light with the way things are turning around. Even though we don`t compare to the better schools as UVA,VA TECH, RICHMOND, VCU, W&M, and Northern Virginia Community College, here at JMU, our swimming & crew teams are ranked as some of the best in the nation...suck on that Harvard. All though we get our butt kicked often and disagree with with UVA having smarter and beautiful women, we do agree with our passion for JMU sports.
