subject: "REFS BAIL BEFORE A GAME STARTS???!!!!!! "
PISSED OFF

;

Due to a scheduling conflict with a soccer league, half of the 8:30 game of Sharks / Spalding wasn`t played and once the police came and determined that the soccer league was not supposed to be on the field until next week and once the field was turned back over to the football league, the refs decided that the 9:45 game would not be played, because they wanted to go home. This decision was made by the refs at 9:20, 25 minutes before the last game was even supposed to start. Everyone that was there, Sharks, Spalding, American Tap and the maroon teap witnessed the refs saying it didnt matter to them, they were getting paid for three games regardless, even though they only refereed 1 1/2 games. Not only does the last game now need to be rescheduled, but we all feel that the refs should not be paid for games they didn`t ref. The refs were lucky they didn`t get their asses beaten in the parking lot, because it would have happened if they didn`t make their decision to bail and high tail out of there so quickly. They are paid to referee games, not forfeit games before they can even be played, that is the individual coaches decisions.

I would sign my name, but unfortunately we are going to most likely have deal with these arrogant schmucks again. In all fairness to the refs, at least the red headed one stuck around a little longer than the others, but not by much and there wouldn`t have been much that could have been done once the other two left regardless.

Sincerely,

Unacceptable

I was there and the soccer guys basically bullied their way onto the field. At halftime of our game they just tried to take over .I didn`t hear the conversation , but I know it came down to who had a permit to be on the field. The refs nor any of the teams out there had one , so the police had to go with the soccer guys.I know guys were pissed , but the refs had thier hands tied. They tried , but it was turning into an argument and without a permit or the presence of a commissioner- it was a losing battle.

The refs or captains of each team should be given a copy of the permit if the commish is not going to be present so problems like this can be dealt with. I am the team captain of Big Pimpin and was present for all of this. We had both teams out there and ready to play. We all pay money to play, and in my opinion we should have been able to play tonight. The refs did take off before the 9:45 game time, unfortunately I did not hear their reasoning. They seemed to be with us on getting our game going at first, but then decided to leave for whatever reason. It was a bummer, and hopefully we can avoid situations like this in the future.

I did get a call last night around 9:30 (I get up at 5:00 so I go to bed early) - someone asked "is this Rob", I said "no this is Tom" - the reply was "sorry" and a hang up. Shay also told me he got a call in NC last night but did not have access to the permits.

To view our permit for April for EC got to : http://www.vffa.com/leagues/fairfax/permit_9338.pdf

We did provide the officiating organization with a copy of this permit as well.

If the soccer organization had a permit, this means the County double booked the field. Rob is going to the County today to figure out what happened and what sort of remedy they can offer us.

My apologies for this incident, and we will reschedule the 1.5 games in a way that won`t inconvenience the teams affected. Coaches - feel free to email me to discuss this further if you wish; tom@iffl.us

TOm has said enough. I will take care of this TODAY! My apologies I am usually reachable while games are in progress if not actually at the field. Unfortunately this week I had to travel for work and was stuck in Newark airport awaiting a return flight so my cell phone did not work.

Again, I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. Count on this being resolved today.

Sincerely,

Rob Holland

TOM,

WE DO NOT HAVE ANY PERMITS AND NEVER HAVE.

WHERE ON THE WEB SITE ARE ALL THE PERMITS FOR THE FIELDS LIKE WAKEFIELD AND POPLAR TREE?

THIS WOULD BE VERY HELPFUL FOR THE TEAMS.

THANKS

I unfortunately was stuck with the unfavorable task of dealing with this situation the other night. The police were called by one of the 500 soccer players/coaches/refs/fans that were at the field. The police gave the field to the soccer players around 915 because they had a permit in hand. I insisted that we see the permit held by the soccer refs. The permit was not valid as it started the following week. The police gave the field back to us at the same time that the football refs approached me and said they were leaving. At approx. 930 I told the soccer players that they could have the field since our refs had left.

I just wanted to clear up the timeline of events and avoid hearsay for those interested.

As a resolution the game that was interrupted last Thursday will definitely be made up at a later date near the end of the regular season play.

As far as losing your one week on the turf field. I talked with the County office and we will be holding another game on Thursday night April 13th @ EC Lawrence and not Wakefield. Again games this Thursday nite will be held @ EC Lawrence on April 13th.

If you have any questions/concerns please give me a call anytime during the week after 3pm or any reasonable time on the weekend.

Thank you!
