Is there anyway we can get the officials at EC a rule book??? Just a heads up the officials at EC suck. A ref told me that you only need 1 foot inbounds and then told me that this wasnt the NFL. and the worst part is that 2 out of the 3 refs said you only needed 1 foot in. we need better refs period

that crew

they`re bitter they have to be out there and that they`re having trouble staying focused on the actual game thats being played. then when its time to make a big call they all kind of look at each other hoping the other one saw it then until the realize they were all zoned out together then the one who is closest to where the play took place just kind of guesses.

it also seems certain refs follow one set of rules, while others are on a completely different page. whats legal one day, may not be the next week (feet in bounds, onside kicks, etc) . frustrating....

tom should give them a quiz at the beginning of each season w/the flag fb rules and see if they can break 50%. just the basics, things like how many feet need to be down, whether the clock stops in the last two minutes of the first half, etc

These issues get addressed every season and nothing changes. I`ve seen the same refs come out to these games for the past several years and only a handful of them actually care and even less of those really know the rules. That Hochuli guy was pretty good but I haven`t seen him out there at all this season so far. There is not one good crew at either ECL or Pop Tree, which really sucks but what are you gonna do? The people that run the league obviously don`t think it`s a problem, so if you don`t like it the only option you really have is to quit this league and find another one.

the rule book is too confusing for them to read, its long and it kind of looks like it was written by a lawyer, and since they dont actually have to read it why bother. but if you took the 10 or 15 most often `discrepancies` that occur, put them into easy to understand 2 word sentences, and put them all on one page and passed the out to the refs and coaches it would may simplify things. Something like:

-1 foot in bounds is a catch
-clock stops in last two minutes of both halves
-cussing is illegal and results in ...

missed a HUGE call in the Cougars/Bulldogs game. On 4th down, the Cougars pulled a flag that was behind the 1st down. The all three of the refs were out of position and all admitted that they didn`t see where the flag was pulled and spotted the ball where the player with the ball had come to a complete spot. After that they were throwing around Unsportsman like conduct penalties as if they were Pacman Jones making it rain. horrible.

the ref at ecl gave our team a penalty because my defensive player said "F*** he hit me" (he collided with another player) but on the next drive the other team QB threw a bad passs and yelled "OH S***!". i was like why was that not a penalty... he claims if you cuss on a mistake its not a penalty... cuss loooking for a call is a penalty. these refs are terrible.

yeah i saw that

at the Cougars/Bulldogs game the funny part was they weren`t even out of position i just dont think they were paying attention it wasnt really that difficult of a play to call and none of the three had any idea what to do. they looked at each other, each claimed they didnt see it, then they just decided F it and picked a spot. may as well have had a coin flip. then 30 yards worth of unsportsmanlike penalties later its like they felt guilty and negated a field goal attempt for taking too long.

on it is this. I play in a softball league that employees their own umpires. They handle the training, scheduling, evals etc. We used to contract to a company that provided umpires. The difference is night and day. The umpires now are much more educated on the rules, how to handle disputes and they get paid more and are held to a higher standard. Last time I checked, IFFL contracted out to a company for refs? Is that correct?

my 2 cents

Gentlemen, I see things don`t chage. 2 feet for a catch, 2 flags cross the cone for a 1st down or td, the clock doesn`t stop at 2 min. the refs should yell 2 min keep it running like the nfl and once inside 2 min out of bounds, incom. pass and t.o. stops clock. As for calling out the refs that`s gutless, but when you ad "the black" part to it let`s me know you are one of them kind you a$$hole mf

if those are the rules i dont think their is an official in the league who doesnt call a 2 minute warning, plays by the 2 flag spot rule, and requires 2 feet inbounds

every official

i have seen calls 2 feet in bounds because everytime I think to myself "really, what is this? the NFL." In my past two season, there have been four/five plays that came on the sideline and EVERY time the Ref said there has to be two feet in bound when the receiver only had one--different fields, different refs. Give them a break, they are not professionals but then again, neither are we.

Well

Yes we are not professionals and neither are the refs, but remember that the NFL pays a much higher salary than the iffl to balance the equations, and we the players pay to play so we deserve to have good refs otherwise what will we be paying for? Many of us can easily find and set up our own backyard scrimmages. Since there are about 10 teams per division, only four will win a title, so four teams basically pays for the title, trophies and the promise of a organized sporting event each week, while the last 36 teams only really pays for the organized league. So yes, I believe we have the right to complain about the refs because in reality, we are only paying to play on a field, to have a unbiased official.

TO ALL PLAYERS

This is the only league in the State of Virginia that uses three officials everyone else in the State uses four officials. As players and coaches in the league iffl and fairfax league decided to go with three officials so i guess that is the officials fault also.Maybe another set of eyes would have got the call right on the 2 feet inbounds or not play???

Already talked to the teams out there - they know the process. Feel free to vent here but don`t expect us to deal with this via the messageboard.

To the post above re: "This is the only league in the State of Virginia that uses three officials", that is not true. In our case, the reason we use only 3 is the cost. If we could pay what other leagues in the state do per official per game we would use 4 officials. Everything is more expensive up here.
