Going into week 5, let`s look at each team in the division and do a little analysis:

1.)Magnums- Looking very solid. Defense is unmatched in this division. Best pass rush, best coverage, hands down. Their offense isn`t explosive but minimizes mistakes and advances on opportunities. QB makes a lot of things happen.

2.)Sharks- The Sharks are still mighty indeed, but consistensy is an issue. Their offense (especially their WRs...particularly #1)carries this team. You`re not going to find WRs faster than this. Defense is good, but tends to give up easy points once they get ahead. Pass rush is excellent but coverage is average at best.

3.) CCR Novas- May have dropped one to the Hokies but I`m not convinced they wouldn`t smash them in a second go around. Fast, athletic, organized. These guys are the wiley vets of the league, so you better be ready when you go up against them.

4.)Hokies- Are they for real? Well the have to be, they beat CCR NOVAS...but then again they lost to PKL. These guys are still a huge question mark. I`ll tell you one thing though: they are fast, quick, get after the QB, and have great ball skills. A couple make or break games against Storm and Novacaine are huge before they play the juggernauts, Magnums and Sharks.

5.)Spalding- 31-12 against Frontline? They must be beast...oh... but shut out against Storm and the Sharks. Their D has let up over 20 points in 3 out of 4 games. That won`t cut it. But their O has proven to be tough to stop at times, which keeps them in the 5th spot.

6.) Novacaine- Which Novacaine will show up? The one that almost beat the Sharks? The one that got stomped out by the Magnums? The one that easily beat PKL? They have talent, but consistency could be their worst enemy.

7.)Storm- Can you say sleeper? This team is good my friend. Almost routed Magnums in week 1, smashed Spalding with ease. I wish they had played the Sharks because I think they could`ve won. However, due to lack of games, and a below .500 record, they will stay at #7. For now...

8.) PKL Warriors. If these guys could just pull it together and play, they`d excel. The athletes are there. If their D would just stay disciplined, and their offense could devise a better way to consistently score, than they`d be doing much better. QB play is suspect, but there is potential.

9.)Diesel- Tough D, don`t make many mistakes, and can score on offense. They just haven`t found a way to pull out the victories, and this is another team where consistency is a question.

10.) Frontline- Even though they are last, I`m convinced they could pull of a win against anyone in the division. Once again the athletes are there, but get them in the right place! That is their biggest issue I think.

Can we hear from Open East please?

Week 5`s not done, but i`ll take a stab at Open East

1) Triple Crown - the #2 team in VA is 4-0 and winning convincingly, coming back as defending champions. Only concern is the level of competition they`ve been facing so far, shutting out 3 of the 4 worst teams in Open East. If they aren`t lulled into a false sense of security, and can maintain this intensity, they are in strong shape to repeat as A Champs. This week`s game vs the Bad Boyz should be the one to watch, as the Bad Boyz are coming off a stinging loss to the Greyhounds, and are likely playing with a huge chip on their shoulder.

2) Greyhounds - okay, so who are the Greyhounds, really? They`ve been winning, and through week 4, was leading the league in points, but are they really that consistent? First game jitters may have caused the first close call with an underperforming Blazers squad, but then they ended up tying the Union after blowing out the Bad Boyz? Despite all this, they are definitely a force to be reckoned with, consistent or not. My gut feeling is that they will win the games that need to be won.

3) Rejects - came into last night`s game looking unstoppable. Very good defense, very athletic squad and very physical offense. Despite the loss (possibly due to the absence of their quarterback) to a surprising Kryptonites team, they are still one of the best teams in A-Open. They have a manageable end of season schedule, with Triple Crown and Greyhound being good measuring sticks.

4) Kryptonites - Okay, I don`t even know what to say about this one. These guys were in C for christ`s sake. They started off cold with a tough loss to the Union, but have banged out winners against the rest of the bottom of the East until last night, earning a legitimate win against the Rejects. Are they this season`s cinderella story? One thing is certain, and it`s that they can`t keep hoping for 1 pt victories as they start their tough last half of the season schedule.

5) Bad Boyz - Make no mistake. The Bad Boyz are frustrated. This is a squad that can compete against any team, anytime, any where, but has problems pulling the trigger. A tough, gritty loss to the Rejects, and a blow out at the hands of the Greyhounds have left them wondering..."how the hell did we get here?" Talent and intensity is not a problem, these guys are still in great shape to find a way into the A playoffs if they can get their swagger back.

6) The Union - Not much to say, going in to week 5, they are 1-2-1, with their most noticeable achievement being tying the Greyhounds. There are athletes on the squad, and there have been moments where the team as a whole has shined, but this is a textbook example of why chemistry is so important.

7) Signal - This is a no one should sleep on. They may be 1-3, but they aren`t going down without a fight. They have played the toughest teams in the whole league, and have played them all tough (limiting TC to 13, scoring 20 on Greyhounds.) They have the capacity to become talented, and are highly motivated.

8) GSS Blazers Chaos - After starting the season at a high level, their hopes and aspirations have plummeted. A pre-season favorite, this team has imploded since last beating the Titans, and has taken a turn for the worse after losing their QB to an injury. The season`s almost over, and if they can pull together their attitude and get some rhythm going, they might just make the B+ playoffs.

9) Titans - The one thing that the Titans are is that they are consistent. I don`t know too much about them to say otherwise, besides the fact that it will come down to the wire as to whether the Titans or the Blazers make it into the B+ playoffs (Blazers currently have the head to head.)

10) Wolverines - you gotta feel for this team. They`re clearly outclassed, but they don`t really give a damn. Their offense is not that bad! Their QB has a really quick release and can make some solid throws.

Nice Bored Loser #2! Solid analysis. We should continue this in a few weeks once more things unfold, with myself covering the West and you covering the East. All positive analysis with constructive criticism...you followed the mold perfectly. If this were an assignment in Flag Football 101, I would grade this assignment with an A.

Some big games in Open West next week, 2 inparticular to watch:

Magnums vs. Sharks: Well gentleman, this is what we have all been waiting for. The Magnums have just been embarrasing people this season, and haven`t given up a single point since week one. The Sharks have been far from embarrasing people, keeping every single opponent in the game, but always finding a way to win with 21 points (They have scored 21 in EVERY game). However, if history has taught us anything it is that The Sharks are a better team than The Mags and will find a way to win. I guess only time will tell. Get ready for some Monday Night Football.

Novacaine vs. Hokies: A huge game that could very well determine who gets that 4th spot in the West for A Playoffs. Novacaine started 0-2 but those two losses came at the hands of The Best in the West (Sharks and Mags). Novacaine has one 3 in a row since, including convincing wins over Spalding and PKL Warriors. The Hokies have been handling business all year, with impressive victories over Storm and CCR Novas. However, they did drop one game to PKL, which makes this game next THURS even more critical, especially because the Hokies still have to play THE BEST in THE WEST in the last few weeks.

Get ready for an exciting week 6 in Open West!

Part of the problem & Tom,

Damnnnnnnnnn. You guys are taking the fun out of all of this. I`m working with my investigative team and we are very close to figuring out who the flagged IP culprits are and trust me Bored Loser is one of the suspects. We will have a press conference once our investigation is complete and release the names of all culprits. Until then you guys are hindering the investigation. I highly recommend that his IP remained flagged.

Bored Loser,

You are good for now. Please feel free to post away. However, please know that your prior records are still under investigation. Do not attempt to leave the country your passport has been flagged as well and you will be detained at all airports.

re: Geez,

You’ve probably never met me but if you did, you would know that I hardly take this seriously. This league and traveling (Punta Cuna 15 days) is my get away from the real world. This investigation has been going on for a while now. Ever since I appointed myself Anonymous Haters Defense Secretary of State (see IFFL Weekly – Turkey Bowl Edition), my goal has been to bring sanctity back to the message board. In the words of our great commissioner, “Some good humored chiding, and trash talking is okay and fun - but mindless internet stalkers are not welcome.” When you get to the point where you’re being racist, defamatory or bringing individuals families into it, then you’ve crossed the line. If you don’t agree with me, let’s talk about it. I’d love to hear your side of it. I’ll be in the commissioner’s suite at the Sharks vs. Magnums game on Monday. Come see me.

p.s. I have two 50 yard seats for the Sharks vs. Magnums game on Monday. Best Offer.

Sincerely,
Anonymous Haters Defense Secretary of State

This coming week, we`ve got these matchups:

Badboyz vs. the Union
Signal vs. Kryptonites
Rejects vs. Triple Crown
Wolverines vs. GSS Blazers Chaos
Greyhounds vs. Titans

They`re not as straightforward as they seem.

They Greyhounds should handle the Titans, but past that, we get to learn a lot more about the East after this week.

1. Rejects vs. Triple Crown: We get to learn just how good these two teams are. Are the Rejects really that good? Is Triple Crown really in a class of their own? I think Triple Crown takes this due to better QB play, but the thing to watch here is the battle in the trenches.

2. Signal vs. Kryptonites: The Kryptonites have been the surprise of this league, by far. Cinderella here is not winning convincingly, however, she is sitting pretty at 4-1. It would be wise for them not to get too ****y or confident because any game with Signal in it could be a big trap game. I`m on the fence about the Kryptonites, but if they can destroy Signal convincingly, then I might just start being a believer.

3. Wolverines vs GSS Blazers Chaos: I actually like the Wolverines. The QB is not too bad, and they`re just looking to have a little fun. What is killing them is that their team is clearly outclassed and unable to compete with the better athletes in this division, but that`s okay. I think the Wolverines will upset the underperforming, shellshocked, Blazers this week, who have had inconsistent offensive production all year. I don`t know how bad the injury to the QB is, or if he is even inured in the first place, but the way things have been going, Wolverine has been fairly consistent in putting up points against low-upper mid level competition. Blazers are in for the upset of a lifetime, and Wolverines, if you`re reading this, BELIEVE!

4. Bad Boyz vs. the Union: this game should be straightforward, I don`t see the Union giving the Bad Boyz too much trouble. Bad Boyz are tough, fast, experienced, but have been handed a 2-3 record after playing the top 3 teams in the division. The Union is decent, but is at where they`re supposed to be with a 1-2-1 record, (after playing the top 3 teams.) I believe this is where the Bad Boyz start locking up and securing their birthright and get a bid into the A playoffs.
